The Vampire Diaries: The Struggle(Matt's point of view)
The Founder's Day dance....why did I even stay? After the news i had gotten just an hour before, after the way Elena looked and spoke to me, I couldn't even function. Everyone in that room had already heard the news and had worried expressions on their faces. I decided I needed some fresh air, so I stepped out for a minute.
"Oh,.... Stefan!" I said, startled. Seeing Stefan gave me a hint of hope, but that hope quickly faded when i saw the look on his face. He looked troubled, like he had just lost the love of his life and held her lifeless body in his hands. I had to stop my thoughts, I did not want to picture Elena that way.
"What have you heard?" he asked.
"Bonnie and Meredith came in saying that Elena had gone off the Wickery Bridge in my car, and that she had drown , and that you layed her.....her body under an oak tree, and now they can't even find her body, and.....and," I found myself breathing rapidly,"Stefan, it's not true is it?"
He looked away.
"Oh.....God...," I started to sob.
"Matt." Stefan gripped my shoulder for support.
"I'm sorry, you must be going through hell, and here I am making it worse." I apologized.
He stared at me seriously, with his jaw clenched, then he looked away abruptly. He stood there for a second then he spoke again.
"Matt.....," he paused as if he had to choose his words carefully,"if there was something you could do for Elena right now...would you do it?" What was i supposed to say, of course i would.
"Anything...., I'd do anything for her." I said gravely.
"Come with me....I've got....something....to show you." He spoke in increments. He started walking back into the school. He led me to the photagraphy room and oped the door.
"These doors are supposed to be locked." I said as Stefan switched on the light.
"They were."
"I...don't understand?"
"I know."
Stefan looked at me seriously, with his jaw clenched again, as he had done just about five minutes before. Only this time he held his stare until my mind went blank and all I could hear was his voice inside my head. The moment this happened I was filled with horror from head to toe. I suddenly did understand.
"What?" I finally spoke.
"There are probably a lot of things you wondered about me," he said,"like why I wear sunglasses indoors, why I don't eat, why my reflexes ar so strong...." His voice trailed off.
"No."
"You must have wondered, must have asked yourself what makes me so different from everybodyelse."
"No, I mean I don't care. I keep out of things that aren't my business." I said a bit irritated. I slowly edged my way toward the door, to escape from the.....vampire.
"Don't Matt, I don't want to hurt you, but I can't let you leave now."
I froze in my tracks. "If you want to scare me, you have," I said, my voice shaky,"what else do you want?"
"Turn around."
I gasped, my entire body went numb, my eyes widened with fear as two bodies walked towards me gracefully. That was it, that was my breaking point, the point where i felt lik,e screaming at the top of my lungs. I would have, if only i could even speak. I opened my mouth but no sound came. I shut it.
What I saw was the most beautiful, radient, and frightening girl ever. This girl had the same features as Elena, but her skin was even paler than her's, her hair had a silky shine, and her eyes, that was the thing that I noticed the most. Her deep-blue eyes were heavy-lidded, almost sleepily, but unnaturally awake. This girl, no woman, was holding on to a man. I remembered this man, he was at Elena's house for Thanksgiving. Damon. The thing that made me positive that this actually was Elena was that she was wearing the same dress she'd been wearing earlier that day, only it was now torn, tapered, and caked in dirt. Elena was now a vampire too. I could tell.
"Matt," she gazed at me and smiled sweetly.
I suddenly got a thought...coming from Stefan? It's alright.
"So...now you know." He said aloud.
I did not want to know this, now this was just too much. I'd of rather lost Elena forever than to have to see her like this. I tried making that the truth, but no matter how terrible it was for me, I couldn't. I was at least happy that Elena was alive,... but like this,.... I felt hopeless.
Stefan began sending another thought to my mind. We don't want to harm you. It's Elena that needs you. And what she needs won't leave you permanantly damaged. It doesn't even have to hurt Matt...you said you would do anything gor Elena, he added.
I had to think.
"You're right;I did." I whispered."What does she need?" I asked even though I already knew.
Elena placed one daintly finger upon my neck.
"Not that one," Stefan said,"you don't want to kill him. Tell her Damon!" He said agitated.
"Try here or here." He spoke quickly, almost too fast to understand.
Trust me Matt, but it has to be your choice, you can cahnge your mind.
"No.....I still....want to help."I faced Elena, "I want to help you Elena."
"Matt...," she sang, "Matt." She leaned in and pressed her soft, silky lips to my neck. I felt a sharp pinch then, and struggled for a moment and Stefan put his hand on my back for support.
Don't fight it, that causes more pain.
I stood still and sustained the vampire with my blood....
